4 Tips for Improving Airflow and Home Comfort
If you’re living in Canyon Lake, CA, you probably find yourself staying inside more often than during the summer. Because of this, your home must have good airflow to make it as comfortable as possible. Here are four tips for improving your airflow and home comfort this winter:
Check Air Filters
Dirty air filters are a common reason a home’s airflow isn’t at an ideal level. Pollutants can clog your filters if you don’t replace them routinely, restricting airflow. Regularly check and replace your HVAC system’s air filters — ideally, every 30 to 90 days.
Use Ceiling Fans
Using ceiling fans is a great way to promote airflow through your home without having to overuse your HVAC system. In the winter, set your ceiling fan at a low speed, running clockwise to help distribute warm air evenly throughout the room.
Seal Leaks and Insulate
If your home isn’t consistently warmed up to your desired temperature, or you notice specific rooms are colder than they should be, check for leaks around your doors, windows and walls. Seal any gaps that you find to prevent warm air from escaping. Using proper insulation in your walls maintains a consistent temperature and improves your home’s overall comfort.
Open Vents and Registers
If you’re concerned about your home’s airflow, check to make sure your vents and registers are completely open. Closed or clogged vents are a common reason for restricted airflow.
Also, don’t let furniture or curtains get too close to your vents or registers. Large furniture items near your vents will block conditioned air.
Poor airflow can create an uncomfortable home during the winter months. If your home isn’t getting the warm airflow you need, contact us at Castillo Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. to schedule heating maintenance in or around Canyon Lake, CA.
