Should My Ductless AC System in San Jacinto, CA, Leak Water?
The short answer is: No, your ductless air conditioner shouldn’t leak water. Because ductless air conditioners can last 20 years or more, and they’re designed to run all the time, it’s easy to overlook issues like water leaks. Here are some reasons your ductless AC system could leak water in your San Jacinto, CA, home:
Cause #1: Dirty Air Filter
When an air filter gets dirty, the airflow through it decreases. Poor airflow can lead to a reduction in pressure inside your ductless AC system, which will then lead to the system becoming too cold. Ice can form in or on the mini-split, which can melt if you switch it off, leading to the leak.
Highly efficient air filters have the same issue. Because they trap such small particles by design, they automatically restrict the airflow more than less efficient air filters. Use adequate filters for your mini-split for optimal operation and indoor air quality.
Cause #2: Blockage in the Condensate Line
Condensation isn’t clean, as there are many particles in the water droplets that form. These particles can fall out of the water when it evaporates, causing the clogs. One of our service technicians can clean the debris from your ductless AC system’s condensate line.
Cause #3: Cracks in the Drain Pan
All the condensation your mini-split generates funnels into the drain pan to flow outside your home, generally to the sewer. If the pan were to develop cracks, the water would leak through those cracks rather than going where it should. One of our service technicians can repair or replace it in short order.
Cause #4: Refrigerant Leak
Because refrigerant is so cold, when it leaks, it causes condensation on the parts of the ductless AC system surrounding the leak. We’ll be able to find and fix the leak for you.
