Diagnosing 4 Worrisome Ductless Noises in Canyon Lake, CA
When running the ductless HVAC system in your Canyon Lake, CA, home, you should be able to sleep soundly without trouble. If you can’t, there may be an issue with your mini-split. The following are four worrisome ductless HVAC noises and their likely causes:
Rattling
Installed in your side or backyard, your ductless HVAC system’s condenser houses its compressor, blower motor, fan and more. It has a lot of heat-generating, fast-moving parts. If any should ever come loose, they’ll rattle around.
If your ductless mini-split system rattles during operation, it may have a bent fan blade, trapped debris or components that have come off completely. In most cases, you should be able to solve the problem by scheduling ductless HVAC maintenance services.
Hissing
Ductless HVAC compressors are highly pressurized. These components alter pressure levels throughout the system to pump refrigerant to and from indoor air handlers.
If your ductless mini-split system develops a refrigerant leak, you’ll likely hear hissing and bubbling noises every time it cycles. Unfortunately, continuing to run your equipment without repairing the leak first could lead to compressor failure.
Gurgling
Some ductless mini-split sounds are perfectly normal, including the:
- Sound of rushing fluid.
- Faint clicking or humming noises when cycling off and on.
- Light cracking or popping sounds as indoor air handlers expand and contract.
However, some gurgling noises could mean that your ductless HVAC ststem has entered defrost mode. Ductless mini-split systems often enter defrost mode when dirty evaporator and condenser coils affect heat transfer or when dirty air filters obstruct airflow.
Buzzing
In rare instances, buzzing noises from outdoor condenser units mean that wasps, bees or other winged insects have taken up residence in this component. Far more commonly, buzzing is a sign of serious electrical issues.
Hissing can also be a sign of electrical problems. Hardwired into residential electrical systems, ductless mini-split systems can develop worn electrical contacts, faulty circuit breakers, frayed wiring and other potentially dangerous electrical issues over time.
